En el frío y la oscuridad, una niña pobre, con la cabeza pelada y los pies desnudos, vagó a través de las calles. Es verdad ella tenía en un par de deslizadores cuando ella se fue a casa, pero no eran de mucho uso. Eran muy grandes, tan grande, de hecho, que habían pertenecido a su madre, y la pequeña criatura pobre las había perdido en el funcionamiento a través de la calle para evitar dos carros que rodaban adelante a una tarifa terrible. Uno de los deslizadores que ella no podría encontrar, y un muchacho agarrado sobre el otro y funcionó lejos con él, decir que él podría utilizarlo como horquilla, cuando él tenía los niños sus los propios.

La niña se encendió tan con sus pequeños pies desnudos, que eran absolutamente rojos y azul con el frío. En un delantal viejo ella llevó un número de fósforos, y tenía un paquete de ellos en sus manos. Nadie habían comprado cualquier cosa de ella la jornada completa, ni tenía cualquier persona dado le incluso un penique. Temblando con frío y hambre, ella se arrastró adelante; pequeño niño pobre, ella miraba el cuadro de la miseria. Los copos de nieve cayeron en su pelo largo, justo, que colgó en enrollamientos en sus hombros, pero ella los miró no.

Las luces eran brillantes de cada ventana, y había un olor sabroso del ganso de la carne asada, porque era víspera-sí de los Nuevo-años, ella recordaba eso. En una esquina, entre dos casas, una cuyo estuvo proyectada más allá de la otra, ella se hundió abajo y amontonó ella misma junta. Ella había dibujado sus pequeños pies debajo de ella, pero ella no podría evitar el frío; y ella se atrevió a no ir a casa, porque ella no había vendido ningun fósforo, y no podría para llevar incluso un penique del dinero. Su padre la batiría ciertamente; además, era casi tan frío en el país como aquí, porque tenían solamente la azotea para cubrirlos, a través de los cuales el viento gritado, aunque los agujeros más grandes hubieran sido parados para arriba con la paja y los trapos. Sus pequeñas manos casi fueron congeladas con el frío.

¡Ah! quizás un fósforo ardiente pudo ser alguien bueno, si ella podría extraerlo del paquete y pegarlo contra la pared, apenas calentarse los dedos. Ella dibujó un “rasguño out-!” ¡cómo farfulló mientras que quemó! Dio una luz caliente, brillante, como una pequeña vela, como ella la detuvo la entrega. Era realmente una luz maravillosa. Parecía a la niña que ella se sentaba por una estufa grande del hierro, con pies de cobre amarillo pulidos y un ornamento de cobre amarillo. ¡Cómo el fuego quemó! ¡y parecido tan maravillosamente caliente que el niño estiró hacia fuera sus pies como si para calentarlos, cuando, lo! la llama del fósforo salió, la estufa desaparecida, y ella tenía solamente los restos del fósforo mitad-quemado en su mano.

Ella frotó otro fósforo en la pared. Estalló en una llama, y donde su luz cayó sobre la pared que llegó a ser tan transparente como un velo, y ella podría ver en el cuarto. La tabla fue cubierta con un mantel del blanco nevoso, en el cual colocaba un servicio de cena espléndido, y un ganso de cocido al vapor al vapor de la carne asada, relleno con las manzanas y los ciruelos secados. Y cuál seguía siendo más maravilloso, el ganso saltado abajo del plato y waddled a través del piso, con un cuchillo y una bifurcación en su pecho, a la niña. Entonces el fósforo salió, y no seguía siendo nada sino el pared grueso, húmedo, frío antes de ella.

Ella encendió otro fósforo, y entonces ella se encontró el sentarse debajo de un Navidad-árbol hermoso. Era más grande y adornado más maravillosamente que el que ella había visto a través la puerta de cristal en el comerciante rico. Los millares de formas cónicas quemaban sobre las ramas verdes, y los cuadros coloreados, como ésos ella había visto en las demostrar-ventanas, miradas abajo sobre él todo. El pequeño estiró hacia fuera su mano hacia ellas, y el fósforo salió.

La rosa de las luces de la Navidad más arriba y más arriba, hasta que miraban a ella como las estrellas en el cielo. Entonces ella vio una estrella caer, dejando detrás de ella una raya brillante del fuego. “Alguien está muriendo,” pensó a la niña, para su vieja abuela, la única persona que la habían amado nunca, y que era muerta ahora, la tenía dicho que cuando cae una estrella, un alma subía a dios.

Ella frotó otra vez un fósforo en la pared, y la luz brilló alrededor de ella; en el brillo de pie su abuela, claro y brillo, con todo suave y amor viejos en su aspecto. La “abuela,” gritó la pequeña, “O me toma con usted; Sé que usted saldrá cuando el fósforo quema; usted desaparecerá como la estufa caliente, el ganso de la carne asada, y el Navidad-árbol grande, glorioso.” Y ella se dio prisa para encender el paquete entero de fósforos, porque ella deseaba guardar a su abuela allí. Y los fósforos brillaron intensamente con una luz que era más brillante que el mediodía-día, y su abuela nunca había aparecido tan grande o tan hermosa.

Ella tomó a la niña en sus brazos, y ambos volaron hacia arriba en brillo y alegría lejos sobre la tierra, donde había ni frío ni hambre ni dolor, porque estaban con dios.

En el amanecer de la mañana pone pequeño el pobre, con las mejillas pálidas y la boca sonriente, inclinándose contra la pared; ella había sido congelada a la muerte en la tarde pasada del año; ¡y el sol de los Nuevo-años se levantó y brilló sobre un pequeño cadáver! El niño todavía se sentó, en la tiesura de la muerte, llevando a cabo los fósforos en su mano, un paquete cuyo fue quemado. “Ella intentó calentarse,” dijo alguno. Nadie se imaginaban qué cosas hermosas ella había visto, ni en qué gloria ella había incorporado con su abuela, el el día de los Nuevo-años.

Heinz Wilhelm Guderian no da la clásica imagen de general nazi, fanático y cruel, con que la mayoría de personas definen ( sin molestarse en conocer) a los generales de la Wehrmacht que llevaron a Alemania a ocupar militarmente la mayor parte de Europa, gesta nunca antes realizada, en tres años de guerras. De eso se trata con este articulo, de acercar al interesado la personalidad y logros de este maestro de la blitzkrieg.

Heinz Guderian, nació el 17 de Junio de 1888 en Culm, Prusia Occidental, hoy llamada Chelmo en el Vístula cerca a Dansk en Polonia. Fue hijo del oficial prusiano Friedrich Guderian y de Clara Kirchhoff.
Estudió en escuelas militares y en la Academia Militar de Berlín, desde 1901 hasta 1907. Fue asignado al Jagër-Batallion Nr. 10 comandado por su padre. Luego en 1908, ingresó a la Escuela de Guerra en Metz que en esa época estaba ocupada por Alemania y luego de graduarse fue comisionado como 2do Teniente al mismo batallón en Goslar.
Se enamoró en 1911 de Margarete Goerne, pero su padre pensó que estaba muy joven para casarse y lo envió para instrucción especial en el Batallón de Telegrafía Nr. 3 y recién al terminar el entrenamiento en 1913, Heinz se casó con Margarete. Tuvieron dos hijos, ambos pelearon en la Segunda Guerra Mundial con el Cuerpo Panzer. El mayor de ellos, luego se convirtió en Mayor General en la Bundeswehr.
En 1914 Heinz fue asignado como oficial de inteligencia y destacado en el frente occidental. Tuvo varias asignaciones que le permitieron apreciar los resultados de muchas batallas, incluyendo el desastre del Marne y la masacre de Verdún. En esos años no tuvo mando de tropas, pero obtuvo la Cruz de Hierro de Segunda y Primera Clase. En 1918 tuvo oportunidad de probar su capacidad para resolver problemas tácticos de forma tal que impresionó a sus instructores. En 1917 fue transferido al Estado Mayor, siendo el oficial más joven en tan alta asignación.
Después de la guerra, Guderian se incorporó al Freikorps, restringida a 100.000 hombres por el Tratado de Versalles, donde reclutaban a los mejores ex-oficiales y soldados de la Alemania vencida y fue trasladado al Báltico como Oficial de Fronteras y luego a Silesia. En esa ocasión tuvo oportunidad de escribir artículos sobre motorización y fue puesto al mando de varias Unidades Motorizadas. Entre 1922 y 1924 fue asignado al cargo de Inspector de Transporte de Tropas en Munich, que para entonces sólo contaba con camiones y motocicletas.
Entre los años 1924 y 1931, como Inspector/Comandante de todas las unidades de transporte y profesor de tácticas en Berlín, ocurrió el cambio que haría famoso a Guderian. Promovido a Mayor en 1927, se las arregló para echarle mano a cuanto vehículo motorizado estuviera a su alcance. En 1929, cuando a Alemania no se le permitía fabricar tanques, viajó a Suecia para visitar un batallón de tanques equipado con los m/21 y m21-29, versiones suecas del tanque alemán LK II. También visitó el campo secreto de pruebas en Kazan, Rusia, donde conoció a varios oficiales de tanques que años después se convertirían en sus enemigos.
En Febrero de 1931 fue promovido a Teniente Coronel y dos años después a Coronel. Continuamente siguió escribiendo artículos sobre los Panzers y la guerra motorizada y ayudó a resolver problemas cuando se empezaron a construir los primeros tanques.
Cuando Hitler ya se encontraba en el poder, tuvo oportunidad de ver las maniobras de los pequeños Panzers I de Guderian, zigzagueando raudos en el campo de batalla. Hitler quedo extasiado con el espectáculo. "Eso es lo que quiero" -dijo- y autorizó la creación de tres Divisiones Panzer, ignorando los mandatos del Tratado de Versalles.
Poco después nombrado Comandante de la 2da División Panzer y promovido a Mayor General. Después de año y medio fue ascendido a Teniente General y recibió el mando del XVI Cuerpo de Ejércitos.
Comandó la punta de lanza en el Anschluss (conexión) de Austria y en la invasión de los Sudetes (Checoslovaquia.) Diez meses después fue promovido a General y fue nombrado al cargo que le permitiría sentar un hito en los métodos de guerra: Chef der Schnellen Truppen o Jefe de Tropas de Desplazamiento Rápido. En ese cargo, fue responsable de reclutar, entrenar y desarrollar tácticas y técnicas en todas las unidades motorizadas y blindadas de la Wehrmacht alemana. En esos momentos tuvo el rango y la autoridad para volcar en las fuerzas armadas alemanas, toda su personalidad, experiencia e ingenio, que hicieron famosas a las fuerzas Panzer.
Combinó con maestría, los blindados con los Panzers, las comunicaciones y la Fuerza Aérea desarrollando lo que se llamó la Blitzkrieg o Guerra Relámpago. En su vehículo de mando que siempre estaba pegado al frente existía siempre un completo sistema de radio comunicaciones equipados con los más modernos equipos, que incluían el famoso codificador Enigma, como se puede ver en la fotografía y siempre había un vehículo de reemplazo listo para cualquier eventualidad.
En Polonia, Guderian comandó el XIX Cuerpo de Ejércitos y se ganó nuevamente la Cruz de Hierro de Segunda y Primera Clase, seguidas de la Cruz de Caballero.
Durante la invasión de Francia, Guderian hizo de la Blitzkrieg un arte, muchas veces desobedeciendo las órdenes de sus superiores pero creando el caos en las líneas enemigas que no podían detener el arrollador avance de los blindados de Guderian. En esa oportunidad pudo demostrarse lo útil que era tener un vehículo de mando totalmente equipado y listo para entrar en acción, apenas fuera necesario. Los avances de Guderian eran tan veloces que muchas veces el enemigo era sorprendido sin mandos, pues pensaban que las fuerzas Panzer se debían encontrar todavía a decenas de kilómetros de distancia. Realizó el decisivo cruce del Meusse en Sedan el 14 de mayo de 1940.
La superioridad de los tanques alemanes sobre los franceses no radicaba en el equipo, pues solamente el Panzer IV era capaz de enfrentar en igualdad de condiciones a los tanques pesados franceses Char B. y los Panzer I, II y III eran muy inferiores y anticuados. La diferencia estaba en las tácticas, en el uso de radio en cada carro y en que los vehículos alemanes eran más rápidos y fáciles de mantener que los tanques franceses. Por otro lado, las fuerzas blindadas no dependían de la infantería, como era el caso habitual, sino que la infantería estaba al servicio de los Panzers. Finalmente, la aviación comprendía grupos de cazas y bombarderos en picada que actuaban en apoyo al avance de los tanques, también sincronizados por equipos de radiocomunicaciones.
A partir de ese momento, todos los carros que estaban bajo el mando de Guderian se destacaban por una gran letra G pintada, eso incluía a los Panzers, blindados, camiones o motocicletas.
Antes de la invasión de Rusia, Guderian fue promovido a General-Oberst (Coronel General) y puesto al mando del Panzergruppe 2, que luego se convirtió en el 2do Ejército Panzer. En la primera etapa de la campaña ganó las Hojas de Roble para su Cruz de Caballero, sin embargo fue relevado del mando al retirar sus fuerzas de una posición de extremo peligro, en contra de las órdenes de su jefe inmediato el General de Campo von Kluge.
En Febrero de 1943, fue nombrado Inspector General de las fuerzas Panzer siendo nuevamente encargado de modernizar el equipo y las tácticas. Estrechó su amistad con el Ministro de Armamento y Municiones Albert Speer, logrando entre ambos aumentar el ritmo de fabricación de los carros acorazados.
Después del intento de homicidio de Hitler, fue nombrado Jefe del Comando del Ejército, pero fue removido del cargo, luego de una agria discusión con el propio Fuehrer, en marzo de 1945.
Guderian rindió sus fuerzas en mayo de 1945 pasando a ser prisionero de guerra, enviado a Nuremberg, pero no fue juzgado. Los rusos trataron de hacerle cargos de crímenes de guerra, pero los aliados occidentales no estuvieron de acuerdo. En 1946 Guderian fue internado en la prisión de Allendorf y Neustadt en Hessesn pero liberado en 1948.
Una vez en libertad realizó varias publicaciones con sus memorias y muchos otros artículos sobre temas militares.
Heinz Guderian al que sus maestros de escuela lo describían como alguien que siempre estaba serio. Sin embargo siempre recibía a sus soldados con una sonrisa afectuosa, que le hizo ganarse el respeto y confianza de sus hombres. Sin embargo, las fotos con sus oficiales de Estado Mayor, rara vez muestran una cara sonriente de Guderian. Lo que lo hacía ser respetado por oficiales y tropa, era que Guderian era capaz de manejar cualquier tanque, apuntar, disparar cualquier arma, incluso las más pesadas y estar siempre cerca de sus hombres en el frente de batalla. Tenía una cualidad innata que le hacía prever cuando un tanque debía avanzar, acelerar o detenerse, en cualquier terreno, sabía cómo hacerlo porque el arma Panzer fue su creación.
Murió el 14 de Mayo de 1954 en Schwangau bei Fussen, exactamente 14 años después de la decisiva ruptura del Meuse en Sedan.

Anécdota

Cuando los civiles polacos se sublevaron contra las tropas alemanas que ocupaban Varsovia y la rebelión fue sofocada, las Schutzstaffel (SS) pensaron en darles un escarmiento ejemplar, pero fue Guderian quien se interpuso y ordenó que los prisioneros sobrevivientes no fueran fusilados, sentando diferencia con las pautas operativas mas empleadas por Heinrich Himmler o Hermann Wilhelm Göring.

Obra

Guderian escribió varios libros, entre ellos Achtung Panzer!, sobre la guerra con tanques, en 1937. En este libro, Guderian hace una profética afirmación: «Rusia posee el ejército más fuerte del mundo, tanto en términos numéricos como en lo avanzado de sus armas y equipo. Rusia además posee la fuerza aérea más grande... Rusia posee una gran cantidad de material básico y una gran industria de armamentos, la cual puede ser ubicada en las vastas profundidades de su imperio. Ya pasaron los tiempos en los que Rusia no quería saber nada de tecnología, nosotros debemos reconocer que los rusos pueden desarrollar y construir sus propias máquinas, con la consecuencia de una transformación en la mentalidad rusa respecto a la cuestión del Este, de una manera más seria que en cualquier periodo anterior de la historia».
También tradujo antes de la guerra libros de J.F.C. Fuller y de B.H. Liddell Hart, unos eminentes teóricos de la guerra moderna, y hasta tradujo al alemán El ejército del futuro, del entonces ignorado Charles de Gaulle (este libro fue rechazado por el alto mando francés, que consideraba la Línea Maginot como la mejor defensa).
Después de la guerra escribió Recuerdos de un soldado, en las que relata sus operaciones en Rusia.

Insania was founded in 1992 by two guys - Mikko Korsbäck (drums) and Henrik Juhano (guitar). The goal was to write and play music in the vein of Helloween, Gamma Ray and Blind Guardian. Henrik had earlier played in various garage bands. In the band was also bassist Tomas Stolt, who left the band after a short while, to play in with other acts, but returned in 1996 and has been with the band since. Mikko knew a guy from school whose name was Niklas Dahlin, and he became the second guitarist of the band. After keyboardist Patrik Västilä and vocalist David Henriksson from the northern parts of Sweden had joined - (Mikko had earlier handled the vocals, but wanted to concentrate on the drums from now on, since singing had become to tiresome) - the line-up was complete. The first studio album (after having released two demos) was released in 1999, and was called World Of Ice. One year later, the second album Sunrise In Riverland was released. The album was recorded in Finnvox studios with renowned producer Mikko Karmila. After the release, several gigs followed in Sweden. In 2001, after a short tour with Saxon, David Henriksson decided to leave the band and return to his hometown in northern Sweden, since he did not feel any motivation to continue anymore. After a short search, the band found a new and very talented singer in Ola Halén from Nacka. Returning to Finland, the band started recording their third album. Mikko Karmila was once again recruited for the producing duties, and Fantasy - A New Dimension was released in February 2003 - almost half a year after the recordings. At the end of 2002 came the next hard blow: Keyboard magician Patrik Västilä told the band he wanted to quit, to focus on his studies. The band found a new keyboardist in Dimitri Keiski, who was recommended by Ola Halén, who knew him since earlier. As if the band hadn't faced enough challenges, shortly thereafter, both guitarists Henrik Juhano and Niklas Dahlin left the band for personal reasons. Was a future for the band really possible now? Luckily, yes. The thirty-one year old Peter Östros from Haninge (suburb of Stockholm) picked up the left over guitar, let his fingers fly over the strings, and Insania had a new guitarist. It was decided to continue with only one guitarist, so as to give more space to the keyboards. A new demo was recorded in December -03 / January -04, with four new songs, showcasing the abilities of the new line-up regarding the composing of songs and the versatility of musical skills. No one knows what the future holds for the band, but no matter what, it's going to be melodic. To be continued...

(Thoughts: This song is pretty much about taking the step to break free from something that doesn’t make you happy anymore. Lot’s of issues appear, and you lose your strength somehow. The important thing is to stay strong, and that’s why some of the lyrics appear twice in this song. /Mikko)

Twilightning - Delirium Veil

Twilightning was formed in 1998 in Imatra Finland. The original line-up consisted of four members: Tommi Sartanen (gtr.voc.), Ville Wallenius (gtr.), Jussi Kainulainen (b) and Juha Leskinen (dr.). In February 1999 the band recorded their first demo at Astia studios in Lappeenranta and due to that the they played a handful of gigs mostly in their home town. A few months later Mikko Naukkarinen joined the band as a keyboard player which resulted in approved live performance and enabled adding a new atmospheric dimension to song writing. The style and sound of the band was developing towards the present form as Twilightning recorded their second demo-CD "Affection Seeker" in April 2000. It was sold mostly in Finland and sent scattered places around the world before the Japanese company Disc Heaven wanted to buy all the remaining 200 copies of it. The group was doing more gigs including Nummirock 2000 festival and some smaller festivals in Finland. The year 2001 brought a major enforcement as Heikki Pyhi hit the line-up as a lead singer. Soon the band went off to record their third demo, called Return to Innocence, which received very good reviews and rouse the interest of record labels and got the band more publicity. The style of the band was taken to a more unique sounding combination of dynamic guitar work, catchy vocal lines, peculiar synth sounds and arrangements, hard driving drums and the mood of 80's hard rock. In November 2001 Twilightning signed a deal with Spinefarm records. The group continued performing and Tommi and Ville begun writing new material for the debut album. In September 2002 the band started the recordings of the album at Astia studio with Anssi Kippo, who also acted as a producer. The album was mixed by Timo Tolkki of Stratovarius at Finnvox studios in January 2003. At the moment the band is rehearsing for coming live shows and writing new songs. INTO TREASON ..

La Fortaleza de la Perla

Allí se ve obligado a emprender el más extraño de sus periplos: debe encontrar la Perla, en el corazón de la fortaleza de la Perla, o morirá. Sinopsis:

Elric de Melniboné, el último emperador de una tierra en otro tiempo poderosa, autoexiliado de ella y portador de la espada mortífera que llaman Tormentosa, encuentra un barco que le espera en la costa, cubierta por la niebla, de una tierra extraña.

Cuando sube a bordo de la misteriosa nave, su sombrío capitán le comunica que se dispone a emprender una extraña empresa, acompañado por héroes de otros tiempos. Pues aquel barco no surca aguas terrenas: estos guerreros y campeones combaten a brujos y demonios en un viaje que recorre mares cuyas aguas no unen costas o continentes, sino eras distintas y mundos diversos. Los hombres de a bordo, todos ellos, son marineros de los mares del destino...

Este libro recopila algunas aventuras de Elric durante su exilio en los Reinos Jóvenes. Está compuesto por tres historias individuales, enlazadas para darles cierta consistencia como libro. La primera es la más floja, a pesar de la presencia de Corum, Erekosë y Hawkmoon como “estrellas invitadas” (introduciendo el concepto de Multiverso y Campeón Eterno por primera vez en la cronología) y de evocar unas imágenes espectaculares. Su mayor defecto es que es demasiado similar a otras historias y que se resuelven ciertas inconsistencias con el resto del ciclo de forma discutible. La segunda, alrededor del personaje de Saxif D’Aan, mejora (aún siendo una historia menor), y la tercera es la mejor de todas. Esta historia cuenta el viaje a la ciudad de R’lin K’ren A’a, ciudad donde pueden estar los orígenes de Melniboné, y es la que más importancia tiene en relación con arco argumental de la lucha entre el Orden y el Caos a lo largo del ciclo.

El Misterio del Lobo Blanco

Sinopsis:

El trono de Imrrur, la ciudad de los sueños, joya resplandeciente del imperio de Melniboné, ha pasado a manos de Yyrkoon, el odiado usurpador, y Cymoril, dueña del corazón de Elric, ha sido recluida en un mágico letargo.

Atormentado por el amor y por el odio, Elric emprende el camino de la venganza y regresa a Melniboné acompañado de una armada de los Reinos Jóvenes. y así, entre la sangre y la destrucción, se escribe un nuevo capítulo de la terrible historia del portador de la espada negra.

Sinopsis:

Sinopsis:

Elric, Señor de Dragones, príncipe albino de una estirpe de emperadores brujos y destructor de la orgullosa Melniboné, se ve enfrentado a una amenaza peor que la propia muerte. Debe emprender una búsqueda a través de las dimensiones del Multiverso para encontrar el alma de su padre Saldric y liberarle de una agonía eterna a la que su propia alma se vería igualmente arrastrada si fracasa. El camino de Elric se une así al de la Rosa, una aliada incierta, y al de la Nación Gitana, que recorre el mundo sin descanso, viéndose envuelto en la lucha que sostienen el duque del Caos y su eterno rival, el conde Mashabak.

Sinopsis:

Elric de Melniboné, el príncipe albino de un pueblo desaparecido, dirige el vuelo de los dragones que pertenecieron a la orgullosa Melniboné a través de los cielos de los Reinos Jóvenes. Una horda de bárbaros, guiados por la ignorancia, intentan conquistar lugares querido por Elric, y el Príncipe de la Túnica Escarlata se dispone a descargar el venenoso fuego de su ira sobre ellos, dominado por emociones que escapan por completo a su control.

Sinopsis:

ÉPOCA PREHISPÁNICA

Michoacán (del náhuatl Michihuacan, que significa lugar o pueblo de pescadores) formó parte de la región denominada Occidente de México en el área de Meso América. Se sabe que hace unos 4 ó 6 mil años, en las cuencas de Los lagos de Chapala y de Cuitzeo, se asentaron grupos humanos. Varias migraciones llegaron a la entidad, pero el grupo más importante y que finalmente ejerció un predominio sobre gran parte del actual territorio michoacano fue el purépecha (también conocido como tarasco), sin embargo, grupos nahuas, otomíes y matlatzincas también ocuparon parte del estado. Durante siglos se fueron asentando diferentes comunidades que encontraron en esta región buenas condiciones para vivir y desarrollarse.

La zona del lago de Pátzcuaro estaba ya habitada en el posclásico por purépechas y nahuas, que se dedicaban, principalmente, a la agricultura ya la pesca. En el siglo XIII grupos de cazadores-recolectores purépechas, llegaron por la parte norte: el caudillo Hireti-Ticátame y su gente se establecieron en Naranxan, cerca de Zacapu. Allí encontraron comunidades similares a la suya (idioma, creencias y costumbres), pero de mayor desarrollo económico y cultural que ellos.

Esto ocasionó contradicciones y enfrentamientos por las distintas formas de vida; por lo que Sicuírancha los llevó a Uayameo (ahora Santa Fe de la Laguna), abandonaron Uayameo y fundaron Pátzcuaro: centro ceremonial donde permaneció Curicaueri, su dios principal. Tariácuri, en el siglo XIV después del breve mandato de Curátame II, comandó un amplio y fuerte movimiento hasta lograr la unificación de la mayoría de los pueblos bajo mando único, así se inició la conformación del Estado Purépecha. Contando con la dirección militar de sus sobrinos e hijo, conquistó una vasta extensión territorial, incluyendo los pueblos de la zona lacustre. A su muerte, el estado se dividió en tres señoríos: Ihuatzio, Pátzcuaro y Tzintzuntzan.

En Tzintzuntzan se concentró el poder político, religioso y militar, convirtiéndose en el supremo gobernante purépecha o cazonci; dominó Colima y regiones de Jalisco, Guerrero, Estado de México, Querétaro y Guanajuato, y detuvo La invasión mexica de Axayácatl con ayuda de los matlatzincas, a quienes cedió Undameo, Guayangareo (Hoy Morelia) y Charo. Zuangua o Ziguangua continuó las conquistas; derrotó a las tropas de Moctezuma Xocoyotzin y posteriormente, se negó a dar ayuda a Cuitláhuac, en contra de los españoles. Tangaxoan II rehusó enviar auxilio a los mexicas y recibió pacíficamente a los hispanos.

LA LLEGADA DE LOS ESPAÑOLES

Cristóbal de Olid fue el primer capitán español que pisó tierras michoacanas en 1522, a partir de entonces los indígenas fueron objeto de despojos y vejaciones por lo que los pobladores huyeron a las sierras. Tangaxoan accedió someterse a Cortés, entregando en oro el tributo de conquista. Beltrán Nuño de Guzmán al emprender la conquista de Jalisco, devastó la tierra michoacana.

La Madero en 1930

Por la avidez de riquezas del sanguinario conquistador, Tangaxoan fue atormentado, sacrificado e incinerado en febrero de 1530 en Santiago Conguripo. Vasco de Quiroga llegó a Michoacán en 1533. Oidor de la Segunda Audiencia, dicta enérgicas provisiones para detener la explotación del pueblo purépecha por el sistema de encomiendas. Establece en Santa Fe de La Laguna de Uayameo, a orillas del lago de Pátzcuaro, su hospital-pueblo (con iglesia y colegio), para 200 familias. Ejemplar institución de vida comunitaria que convertía en realidad la utopía socialista de Tomás Moro. Introduce avanzadas técnicas agrícolas y la enseñanza de diversas artes industriales.

Al erigirse la diócesis de Michoacán el 18 de octubre de 1536, don Vasco, siendo laico, es electo su obispo. En Tzintzuntzan -capital del antiguo dominio tarasco, que fue evangelizada por el Franciscano Martín de la Coruña- instala su sede, pero la movió a Pátzcuaro en 1540. Erigida en el valle de Guayangareo sobre una colina de suaves pendientes formada de grandes bancos de cantera que sirvieron para la construcción de sus edificios civiles y religiosos, se encuentra situada en los 101º11'30" de longitud oeste de Greenwich, a los 19º42'16" de latitud norte y a una altura de 1940 metros sobre el nivel del mar

La ciudad de Morelia se fundó en 1541 como la Tercer Ciudad de Michoacán; la primera, era Tzintzuntzan y la segunda Pátzcuaro. Su fundación se motivó por la inconformidad de la población española, radicada principalmente en Tzintzuntzan, ante la decisión del obispo Vasco de Quiroga de cambiar la sede episcopal de esta ciudad a Pátzcuaro. El Virrey Antonio de Mendoza, molesto por no haber sido consultado del traslado de la sede episcopal, autorizó la fundación de la nueva ciudad en el Valle de Guayangareo.La rivalidad entre las poblaciones de Pátzcuaro y Valladolid era latente y estaba alimentada por la existencia de ideologías opuestas respecto de la manera de cómo tratar a los indígenas.

El gran respeto que tenía Vasco de Quiroga por los pobladores purépechas de la región originó fuertes pleitos con los encomenderos españoles, quienes se servían de la población para llevar a cabo la explotación del territorio. El conflicto duró la vida entera de Don Vasco y se reflejó en la lucha entre Valladolid, ciudad de españoles, y Pátzcuaro, ciudad con cierto carácter indígena, por ser la sede episcopal. Seria hasta 1580, después de la muerte de Don Vasco, que la recién bautizada ciudad de Valladolid lograría ser la sede episcopal.

Los rasgos más distintivos de la ciudad novohispana, que contrastaban con la disposición de las ciudades españolas contemporáneas, están presentes en la ciudad de Valladolid desde fecha temprana: La horizontalidad, y las grandes dimensiones en los solares para la arquitectura doméstica, las anchas avenidas y los espacios abiertos de gran escala. Para ejemplificar, se puede mencionar que el tamaño de la plaza central en el siglo XVI. antes de la construcción de la Catedral, era de 130 por casi 300 metros. La lotificación original muy probablemente dividía las manzanas en cuatro solares, lo que resultó en construcciones que disponen de una gran cantidad de espacio para desarrollarse en forma horizontal en torno a patios centrales. En general, la traza tiene las características señaladas en las Ordenanzas de Felipe II, aunque la fundación de Valladolid las precede por 32 años.

La ciudad se trazó en el valle de Guayangareo, considerado apto por contar con dos ríos y tierras de cultivo en sus alrededores. El valle estaba poblado en forma dispersa por grupos otomíes, sin haber evidencia de un asentamiento propiamente urbano anterior a la fundación, así que se trata de una de las pocas fundaciones de nuevas ciudades en la Nueva España, dado que en la rnayoría de los casos los asentamientos novohispanos se desarrollaron sobre poblados prehispánicos. Resulta tentador imaginar la vida virreinal de Valladolid en el escenario de la Morelia de hoy; sin embargo, el actual Centro Histórico es resultado de más de 450 años de transformaciones.

Durante su primer siglo de existencia, la ciudad de Valladolid languidecía, y a principios del siglo XVII su población se calculaba cuando mucho en 50 familias.La queja de los residentes españoles por falta de mano de obra disponible para la construcción es constante en este periodo, y derivó en la congregación de indígenas en doce barrios periféricos al núcleo de la población española. Así se conformó el patrón espacial típico de las ciudades novohispanas con población española en la parte central y barrios de indios alrededor.

Los censos de los siglos XVI y XVII son sumamente vagos y a veces hasta contradictorios, sin embargo, se pueden vislumbrar tres tendencias:
En primera instancia el crecimiento de la ciudad durante el siglo XVI, fue sumamente lento; la segunda fue su religiosidad, a principios del siglo XVII cuando la ciudad contaba con 120 "vecinos españoles" y tenía el mismo número de religiosos; y por último, asombra la proporción entre el número de sirvientes y la población total ya entrado el siglo XVII, en 1624 la ciudad tenía, hablando en números redondos, 220 casas, 1100 sirvientes y 230 esclavos.

El mayor crecimiento de la ciudad virreinal se dió a lo largo del siglo XVIII y en gran medida este crecimiento quedó reflejado en el gran número de construcciones monumentales realizadas en este periodo: Los conventos de Las Rosas y Las Monjas, el Seminario Tridentino (actual Palacio de Gobierno) y la Catedral, para señalar algunas.

Época prehispánica

En el siglo VII de nuestra era, se desarrollaron asentamientos humanos en el valle de Guayangareo, vinculados con la cultura teotihuacana, debido a los vestigios que dejaron, entre los que destacan estructuras con presencia de talud y tablero, piedra tallada y figurillas de cerámica. La mayor parte de estos vestigios se ha encontrado en la loma de Santa María y en las cercanías de la presa de Cointzio. Posteriormente, alrededor del siglo XII llegaron los purépechas al actual municipio de Morelia, sin embargo no establecieron en el valle asentamientos importantes. En el siglo XIV se establecieron los pirindas o matlatzincas, con el consentimiento de los gobernantes purépechas de Tzintzuntzan, como premio a su apoyo en la guerra que tuvieron aquellos para derrotar a los Tecos de Jalisco. Los pirindas establecieron el poblado de Guayangareo en la actual zona del parque Juárez.

Fundación y Colonia

La primera presencia española en el valle de Guayangareo fue una de las expediciones de Cristóbal de Olid, quien en 1522 sostuvo una entrevista pacífica con el gobernante purépecha Tangaxoan II. Poco después de la conquista de Tenochtitlán, en 1524 los matlatzincas quedaron sujetos a las encomiendas de Tiripetío, Tarímbaro, Capula, Teremendo y Jasso e Indaparapeo. Entre los años de 1525 y 1526, en circunstancias confusas, el encomendero Gonzalo Gómez tomó posesión de tierras y tributarios en el valle de Guayangareo, y aprovechó para sembrar vides y construir un batán aprovechando la corriente del río Grande. Entre los años de 1530 y 1531 los franciscanos Juan de San Miguel y Antonio de Lisboa, realizaron la evangelización entre los naturales del valle de Guayangareo; como parte de ello se construyó el primer asentamiento español en la zona que una capilla dedicada a San Francisco de Asís, así como también el primitivo colegio de San Miguel Guayangareo. Dentro de la pugna entre el Obispo Vasco de Quiroga y los encomenderos michoacanos, apoyados por el Virrey Antonio de Mendoza, la reina gobernadora, doña Juana en 1537, dispuso la fundación de una villa de españoles. De esta forma, el 23 de abril, el virrey Don Antonio de Mendoza, expidió la provincia virreinal para la fundación de la nueva ciudad, y así, a las 8 de la mañana del miércoles 18 de mayo de ese año, el escribano público y de Cabildo, Alonso de Toledo, junto con Juan de Alvarado, Juan de Villaseñor y Luis de León Romano, en su carácter de jueces de comisión, designados por el virrey Antonio de Mendoza, tomaron posesión del valle de Guayangareo y se llevó a cabo la fundación de la "Ciudad de Mechuacán", tratando de rivalizar en importancia con Pátzcuaro y Tzintzuntzan, a las que también se les conocía como "ciudad de Mechoacán". Para evitar esta confusión, el rey Carlos Ide España tomó la decisión de ordenar el cambio de nombre a la ciudad, por lo que mediante la cédula real del 6 de febrero de 1545 le concedió el título de ciudad de Valladolid, la cual recibió su escudo de armas en 1553.

La traza urbana de la traza de la ciudad fue establecida por Antonio de Godoy y el alarife Juan Ponce. La villa recibió el título de ciudad en 1545, y su escudo de armas en 1553. El desarrollo de la urbe fue difícil en sus primeras cuatro décadas, debido a que Pátzcuaro ostentaba el poder civil y era sede del obispado, gracias a la predilección que tenía el primer obispo de Michoacán, Don Vasco de Quiroga por Pátzcuaro, y su rechazo a que la nueva urbe ostentara los poderes de la provincia. Sin embargo, el 25 de diciembre de 1575 (10 años después de la muerte del primer obispo de la provincia) se dispuso por cédula real, el traslado de la justicia y Ayuntamiento de la Provincia de Michoacán de Pátzcuaro a Valladolid. Cinco años después (1580) el obispo Juan de Medina Rincón formalizó el traslado de la sede de su diócesis de Pátzcuaro a Valladolid; de igual forma se trasladó el Colegio de San Nicolás Obispo (1581), fundado tiempo atrás por Vasco de Quiroga. Asimismo, comenzó la llegada de diversas órdenes religiosas a la ciudad con la construcción de sus conventos y monasterios, entre ellos, el de las de monjas domicas de Santa Catalina de Sena (1595), los frailes mercedarios (1604), los monjes carmelitas (1596). Debido a lo anterior, a finales del siglo XVI y todo el siglo XVII se aceleró el desarrollo de la ciudad, constituyéndose en una de las ciudades más importantes de la Nueva España, llenándose de importantes construcciones civiles y religiosas, iniciándose la construcción de la magnífica catedral en 1660, y en 1657, bajo la dirección de Lorenzo de Lecumberri, comenzaron las obras de construcción del primer acueducto.

Durante el siglo XVIII, continuó la fiebre de construcciones, terminándose la catedral (1744) y reconstruyéndose el acueducto a mediados del siglo, para mejorar el suministro de agua a la ciudad, a causa de una fuerte sequía que asoló la región. En 1743 se fundó el Colegio de Santa Rosa María, al cual el Papa Benedicto XV le concedió posteriormente el privilegio de ser el primer conservatorio musical de América. El virrey Bucareli respaldó las pretensiones de los habitantes de Valladolid en 1773 para que se conviertiera en la capital de la provincia de Michoacán. El 4 de diciembre de 1786, por Cédula Real se dividió la Nueva España en Intendencias, nombrándosele a Michoacán como una de ellas, siendo Valladolid su capital, y teniendo como primer intendente a Don Juan Antonio del Riaño. Sin embargo, este siglo también se caracterizó porque en Valladolid nacieron varios de los personajes que más tarde serían protagonistas de la Independencia, como José María Morelos y Pavón (1765), Josefa Ortíz de Domínguez, Agustín de Iturbide Arámburu (1783), José María Anzorena, Vicente Santa María y José Mariano Michelena, entre otros.

Independencia

En 1809, dentro de un intenso ambiente social, caracterizado por manifestaciones antiespañolas, se constituyó la denominada “Conspiración de Valladolid”, que pretendía alcanzar la independencia de la Nueva España. Sin embargo fue descubierta por Francisco Javier de Lizana y Beaumont, los principales dirigentes fueron capturados (los García Obeso, los Michelena, Manuel de la Torre Lloreda, Soto Saldaña y José María Izazaga entre otros) y enviados a distintos lugares del país, entre ellos, a Santiago de Querétaro, extendiendo las ideas libertarias.

En 1810 el cura Hidalgo entró a la ciudad, recibiendo gran simpatía por parte de sus habitantes, decretando la abolición de la esclavitud, y nombró a José María Anzorena como intendente. Al año siguiente, Valladolid volvió a caer en manos de los realistas. En 1813 Morelos intentó tomar la plaza, pero sufrió una terrible derrota a manos del también vallisoletano Agustín de Iturbide en las Lomas de Santa María (al sur de la ciudad), razón por la cual Valladolid permaneció en poder de los realistas hasta el final de la guerra. En 1814, en la Plaza Mayor de la ciudad, Mariano Matamoros fue fusilado. En 1821, cuando Agustín de Iturbide, junto con Vicente Guerrero, entraron a la ciudad de México al frente del ejército Trigarante, se dio por concluida la Guerra de Independencia de México, lo cual dio lugar a grandes festejos en Valladolid.

En 1821 Agustín de Iturbide envió la primera imprenta a Valladolid. El 12 de septiembre de 1828, la Segunda Legislatura del Estado aprobó la sustitución del nombre de Valladolid por el de Morelia, para acabar con todo vestigio de la dominación española y honrar la memoria de José María Morelos y Pavón. El 10 de diciembre de 1831 se estableció el municipio de Morelia. En contra de las medidas reformistas promovidas por el vicepresidente Valentín Gómez Farías, el comandante general Ignacio Escalada se sublevó en Morelia y proclamó el retorno de Antonio López de Santa Anna al poder (1833). En 1847 el Batallón Matamoros partió al Valle de México con el objetivo de defender a la patria de los invasores estadounidenses. En 1854, durante la Revolución de Ayutla, la ciudad fue tomada por las fuerzas rebeldes de Epitacio Huerta y el Gral. García Pueblita, pero en 1855 fue reconquistada por las fuerzas del dictador Antonio López de Santa Anna, pero poco después nuevamente fue conquistada por las tropas rebeldes que lograron desterrar al dictador. En 1856 se trazaron nuevas calles, plazas y barrios, cambiando la estructura urbana de Morelia. En 1863, durante la Intervención Francesa, Morelia fue conquistada por tropas imperialistas, por lo cual la capital del estado fue trasladada a Uruapan, hasta el final del conflicto, hasta que el 27 de febrero de 1867, la ciudad fue ocupada por el Gral. Republicano Nicolás de Régules. Entonces el Gobernador Don Justo Mendoza decretó que la capital del estado volviera a ser Morelia. En el año de 1864 las familias conservadores de Morelia firmaron un documento mediante el que expresaron su adhesión al imperio de Maximiliano de Habsburgo, quien ese año realizó una visita a la ciudad. En 1869, al frente de un destacamento antijuarista, el Gral. Epitacio Huerta atacó las posiciones gubernamentales de la ciudad, pero la presencia de una columna militar encabezada por Mariano Escobedo, obligó el retiro de los rebeldes. En 1876 llegó a Morelia el malogrado Presidente de la República, Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada. Ese mismo año, las fuerzas que apoyaban el Plan de Tuxtepec ocuparon la ciudad. A finales de este mismo siglo, empezó a entrar la modernidad a la ciudad, dado que en 1868 empezaron a operar las primeras fábricas en la ciudad, en 1870 se inauguró la primera línea telegráfica del Estado, el 12 de septiembre de 1883 llegó el ferrocarril a Morelia y comenzó a funcionar el servicio de tranvías en la ciudad. En 1888 se instaló el alumbrado eléctrico en las calles céntricas de Morelia y en 1897 se abrió al público la primera sucursal bancaria. Además, se le dio gran impulso a las obras públicas y a la educación.

Siglo XX e inicios del siglo XXI

En el año de 1910, con diversos actos se celebraban las festividades conmemorativas del centenario del inicio de la lucha por la Independencia; sin embargo, el ambiente social era muy tenso por la escasez de granos y por la perpetuación en el poder de Porfirio Díaz, en el país, y de Aristeo Mercado, en Michoacán. Un año después del comienzo de la Revolución Mexicana (1911), fuerzas maderistas comandadas por Salvador Escalante, hicieron su entrada triunfal en la ciudad frente al regocijo del grueso de la población. En 1914, ante la amenaza de la entrada de las fuerzas revolucionarias a la ciudad, se determinó cambiar temporalmente la capital estatal a la ciudad de Tacámbaro. Morelia fue tomada por las fuerzas revolucionarias del general Sánchez el 31 de julio de ese mismo año, y por las tropas villistas al mando del general José I. Prieto el 3 de marzo de 1915. En 1917, el gobernador Pascual Ortiz Rubio creó la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH), a partir del antiguo Colegio de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. Tres años después (1920), tras la toma del Palacio de Gobierno por parte de contingentes de campesinos y obreros de todo el Estado, el Gral. Múgica asumió el Poder Ejecutivo Local. En 1921, una manifestación de católicos indignados por la profanación de la iglesia catedral originó un intercambio de disparos entre la policía y los manifestantes, con resultado de trece personas muertas, entre ellas el líder obrero Isaac Arriaga. El 21 de enero de 1924, en contra del presidente Álvaro Obregón, tropas rebeldes delahuertistas comandadas por el general Enrique Estrada atacaron la ciudad defendida por los Grales. López, García y Avila Camacho, y al tomarla efectuaron saqueo a edificios públicos y casas particulares, pero abandonaron la plaza el 19 de febrero ante la proximidad del ejército federal 1924. Esta fue la última vez que Morelia figuró como escenario de algún conflicto militar. Entre los años de 1926 y 1929, la Rebelión Cristera, afectó fuertemente la economía de la ciudad y del estado. En el año de 1939 se concluyeron los trabajos de la carretera nacional México-Morelia-Guadalajara, que facilitó la comunicación directa de la capital del estado con las dos principales ciudades del país, lo que detonó el crecimiento de Morelia. Las elecciones para gobernador y presidente de la República de 1940 provocaron fuertes manifestaciones en la ciudad, y el saldo de las mismas fue de varios muertos y heridos. En la década de 1960 se modificó la vista del centro de la ciudad, quitando los aparadores y puestos que ocupaban los portales y cortando las palmeras a lo largo de la avenida principal (Av. Madero, que corre de oriente a poniente). En 1966 se produjo una revuelta estudiantil en la UMSNH que fue sofocada por el ejército. En la década de 1970 e inicios de los años de 1980 se construyó el periférico, vialidad en forma de óvalo que rodea al núcleo de la ciudad. Esta importante vialidad fue ampliada a finales de la década de 1990. A partir del año de 1988 y hasta mediados de los años de 1990, el desarrollo normal de la ciudad se vio fuertemente afectado por una serie de movimientos políticos y sociales que afectaron la estabilidad política del Estado. En diciembre de 1991 la ciudad fue declarada por la UNESCO como "Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad". Diez años después (2001), los vendedores ambulantes que ocupaban grandes áreas del centro histórico de la ciudad fueron finalmente reubicados, resaltando así la belleza de las construcciones del primer cuadro urbano. Durante esta misma década se efectuaron diversas obras viales en la ciudad, como la construcción de dos puentes vehiculares al norte de la ciudad (2002) y uno más al poniente (2006), así como la ampliación y continuación de diversas avenidas, como Calzada la Huerta, Avenida Universidad, Francisco J. Múgica, buscando reducir los fuertes problemas viales que enfrenta la ciudad. Entre los años de 2006 y 2007 fueron remodelados diversos jardines y plazas en el centro histórico de la ciudad, perdiendo algunos de ellos su imagen tradicional.

* Pablo Salcedo (1622-1688), Teólogo y humanista.

* Ignacio Xavier Hidalgo (1698-1795), Orador.

Siglo XVIII, Periodo de Independencia

* José María Morelos y Pavón, El Siervo de la Nación (1765-1815). Nació en la ciudad de Valladolid (hoy Morelia en su honor) el 30 de septiembre de 1765. Estudio en el Colegio de San Nicolás, donde conoció a Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, quien fuera profesor y rector de dicho Colegio. Al iniciar Hidalgo el movimiento de Independencia (1810), Morelos decidió unirse al mismo, pero Hidalgo le encomendó a Morelos insurreccionar el sur del país, donde realizó cuatro exitosas campañas militares, hasta que finalmente fue derrotado por Iturbide en las Lomas de Santa María, al sur de Valladolid. Promulgó el documento llamado "Sentimientos de la Nación", que sirvió de inspiración para la primera Constitución Política del México Independiente, en 1814. Traicionado en Texmalaca, fue capturado y finalmente fusilado en San Cristóbal Ecatepec, Estado de México, el 22 de diciembre de 1815. Morelos está considerado como uno de los mayores héroes en la historia de México.

* Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, La Corregidora (1768-1829). Nació en 1768 y murió en la Ciudad de México el 2 de marzo de 1829. Fue la primera heroína de la Independencia de México. Es conocida como "La Corregidora", título honorífico que se le dio por haber sido esposa del corregidor de Querétaro, Don Miguel Domínguez y una de las impulsoras de la Independencia Nacional.

* Agustín de Iturbide (1783-1824). Nació en 1783. Fue ejecutado el 19 de julio de 1824 en Padilla, Tamaulipas. Sirvió al ejército realista hasta 1821, en que junto con Vicente Guerrero, proclamó el Plan de Iguala, que culminó con su entrada a México al frente del Ejército Trigarante el 27 de septiembre de 1821. El 18 de mayo de 1822 se proclamó Emperador y fue coronado el día 21. Iturbide disolvió el Congreso y Santa Anna exigió su reinstalación mediante el Plan de Casa Mata. Iturbide tuvo que abdicar ante el Congreso el 19 de marzo de 1823 y salió de México. El 14 de julio de 1824 desembarcó en Soto la Marina, Tamps., pero el día 19 fue aprehendido y ejecutado. Aunque la historia le ha juzgado muy duramente por ser un férreo enemigo de los insurgentes y por haberse hecho proclamar Emperador de México una vez lograda la emancipación del país, Iturbide fue el personaje decisivo para la consumación de la Independencia Nacional.

* José Mariano Michelena (1772-1852). Nació en 1772 y murió en 1852. Precursor de la Independencia ya que participó en la conspiración de Valladolid en 1808, que pretendía la Independencia de la Nueva España. Al estallar el movimiento de Hidalgo en 1810, se le redujo a prisión, fue enviado a San Juan de Ulúa y posteriormente a España en 1813, de donde regresó al consumarse la Independencia. Luchó contra Iturbide. Fue miembro del Poder Ejecutivo (1822-1824); Ministro Plenipotenciario en Gran Bretaña en 1831 y de guerra en 1837. Fue Gobernador de Michoacán y partidario del federalismo.

* Juan José Martínez de Lejarza (1775-1824). Nacido en 1775 y fallecido en 1824. Botánico. Estudió Ciencias Naturales en el Colegio de Minería de la capital y en su examen recepcional recibió elogios del Barón de Humboldt. Fue diputado a la primera Legislatura de Michoacán. Combatió a Iturbide, fue autor de un Itinerario Militar y un Análisis Estadístico de la Provincia de Michoacán.

* Francisco Manuel Sánchez de Tagle (1792-1847). Nació en 1792. Murió en la Ciudad de México en 1847. Estudió filosofía, teología y jurisprudencia en el Colegio de San Juan de Letrán de la ciudad de México, graduándose con honores en 1801. * Félix Parra (1845-1919). Nació en 1845. Murió en la Ciudad de México en 1919. Pintor académico. Estudió en la academia de San Carlos. Ocupó un lugar distinguido en el panorama de la pintura por sus cualidades y por haber tratado con tino, temas de historia mexicana. Sus principales obras son: “Galileo”, “El Cazador” (1871), “Fray Bartolomé de las Casas” (1876), y ”Una Escena de la Conquista” (1877). A partir de 1892 y hasta la muerte se dedicó a la enseñanza en la Academia.

* Miguel Silva González (1857-1946). Nació en 1857. Murió en La Habana, Cuba. Médico de profesión. Fue el abanderado de los revolucionarios. Ganó las elecciones estatales en 1912, pero dejó el Gobierno al ocurrir la usurpación de Huerta, perseguido por éste, marchó al norte, para unirse al ejército constitucionalista. Se unió a las fuerzas de Villa, distinguiéndose en la organización de los hospitales de sangre. Perdida su causa se exilió en La Habana (1916). Sus restos fueron repatriados en 1948; reposan en un monumento frente al Hospital Civil que lleva su nombre en la ciudad de Morelia.

* Manuel Martínez Solórzano (1862-1924). Médico y profesor; realizó sus estudios en el Seminario Tridentino, en el Colegio de San Nicolás y en la Escuela Médica Michoacana, se graduó de cirujano en 1891. Fue nombrado Director del Museo Michoacano en 1899; fue Regente del Colegio de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, en 1912; fue Presidente Municipal de Morelia, en 1916; fue electo Diputado Suplente por el distrito de Tacámbaro al Congreso Constituyente de Querétaro.

* Miguel Lerdo de Tejada (1869-1941). Músico y compositor. Murió el 25 de mayo de 1941 en la Ciudad de México. Sobrino del político Miguel Lerdo de Tejada

* Pascual Ortiz Rubio (1877-1963). Ingeniero, escritor y presidente de México. Nació el 10 de marzo de 1877 y murió en 1963 en la Ciudad de México. Al apoderarse Victoriano Huerta del gobierno, el joven Ortíz Rubio protestó enérgicamente contra esa medida y por ello se incorporó al movimiento revolucionario bajo las órdenes de Venustiano Carranza, iniciando así, una brillante carrera militar que supo combinar con el ejercicio de su profesión. Fue diputado local y gobernador de su estado natal, en cuyo cargo llevó a cabo una gestión de beneficio y progreso para sus coterráneos. Además, miembro del gabinete de Álvaro Obregón. En 1929 en reñidas elecciones ganó la Presidencia de la República a José Vasconcelos. Tomó posesión de la primera magistratura el 5 de febrero de 1930 y renunció a dicho cargo el 4 de septiembre de 1932.

* José Bravo Ugarte (1898-1967). Nació en 1898. Murió en la Ciudad de México en 1967. Escritor e historiador, cuyas priincipales obras fueron: "Historia de México" (3 vols; 1944, 2a. de. 1947), "Compendio de Historia de México" (1945) e "Historia de México" (Madrid, 1963), éstos dos últimos resúmenes de la primera; "Historia sucinta de Michoacán" (1962-1964); fue miembro de la Academia Mexicana de la Historia.

Siglo XX

* Antonio Martínez Báez (1901- ). Hijo del ilustre sabio Don Miguel Martínez Solórzano. Es doctor en derecho (1950) e imparte cátedra en los cursos del doctorado de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Es doctor Honoris Causa de la Universidad Michoacana (1962) y profesor emérito de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (1966) miembro de número de la Academia Mexicana de Legislación y Jurisprudencia, correspondiente de la Española.

* José Palomares Quiroz (1905-1954), Maestro y poeta.

* Melesio Aguilar Ferreyra (1906- ), Escritor, periodista, catedrático y político.

* Jesús Sansón Flores (1909-1966). Político y poeta. Publicó: "¡Clarinadas...!" (Morelia, 1928), "Puños en Alto" (1932), "El Niño Proletario" (1936), "Canción del Odio" (1938), "Bajo el Sol de España" (1939), "Hampa" (1941) y "El Camino Perdido" (1954).

* Carmen Báez (1910- ). Nació en Morelia en 1910. Periodista, diplomática y escritora. En la literatura se dio a conocer primero como poeta, siendo su obra principal: “Canciones de la Tarde”. En su obra cuentística sus temas describen la vida anecdótica y cotidiana de la provincia, sobresaliendo “La Roba Pájaros”.

* Miguel Bernal Jiménez (1910-1956). Murió en León, Gto. en 1956, mientras impartía cátedra. En 1941 fundó en la capital michoacana la Sociedad de Amigos de la Música y la revista Schola Cantorum. Dirigió asimismo el Orfeón Pío X y creó el Conservatorio de Las Rosas y el Grupo de los Niños Cantores de Morelia. Como compositor, dejó una copiosísima obra de música sacra: misas, himnos, un extraordinario Te deum jubilar y un excelente salmo. Entre la música profana destacan su ópera “Tata Vasco”, sus sinfonías “México e Hidalgo”; las suites sinfónicas “Tres Cartas de México”, “Noche en Morelia”, “Tres Galanes de Juana”, “El Cojo” y “Cuarteto Virreinal”; y el concertino para órgano y orquesta. Fue también autor de varios libros de texto, entre otros un “Tratado de Armonía”. En su honor, el Festival Internacional de Música que se efectúa en su ciudad natal lleva su nombre.

* Felipe Tena Ramírez (1905-1994) Nació en 1905, Jurista. Fue designado ministro de la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación (1951-1970), institución en la que previamente sirvió como secretario de estudio y cuenta (1946-1951). Fue designado presidente del “Seminario del amparo, habeas corpus, y otros medios de defensa de los derechos humanos” convocado por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (1962). Integró las comisiones que elaboraron la Ley del Seguro Social (1943), las reformas en materia de amparo (1950) y la Ley de Nacionalidad y Naturalización (1968), Piedra angular del estudio del Derecho Constitucional en México, fue catedrático de esa materia de 1941 a 1969 en la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Murió en la Ciudad de México en 1994.

* Manuel Castro Ruiz (1918- ) Arzobispo de Yucatán en (1969-1995) Nació el 9 de noviembre de 1918, en el seno de una de las familias más respetadas y queridas de la ciudad, desde muy pequeño ingresa al Seminario Menor y posteriormente al Mayor en la ciudad de Morelia. Fundador del Instituto Valladolid y Profesor del Seminario de Morelia; Obispo auxiliar de Yucatán; S.S. Pablo VI lo preconizo trigésimo noveno Obispo de Yucatán y tercer Arzobispo el 20 de septiembre de 1969. Fue anfitrión de S.S. Juan Pablo II en 1993 durante la tercera visita Papal a México y primera visita como jefe de Estado. Dejo el cargo el 29 de abril de 1995; El 23 de noviembre del 2000 es nombrado Doctor Honoris Causa por la Universidad del Mayab.

* Miguel Castro Ruiz (1920- 2007) Nació el 29 de septiembre de 1920, Estudio en la Escuela Libre de Derecho en la ciudad de México. Colaborador de las Revistas Estudiantiles de Morelia como Logos, Villetas, Vértice, Haz de Provincias, Ciencia y Letras, entre tantos; En 1941 Carlos Septién García lo invita a fundar la revista La Nación del Partido Acción Nacional. Impartió cátedra en el Instituto Valladolid de Morelia. En 1948 ingresó al diario “El Universal” del cual fue Director General. Medalla al Mérito en 1972 del Instituto Nacional de Cultura y Premio Especial Nacional de Periodismo en 1984, entregado por el Presidente, Miguel de la Madrid. Obras Literarias más importantes “Canto de Prisiones”,“Forma y Paisaje”, “Poema del Dolor”, “Poema del Tiempo”, “Paréntesis y Poema de la Vida”, Murió el 19 de abril de 2007, en la ciudad de México.

* David Franco Rodríguez (1915-1989). Nació el 1 de abril de 1915 y falleció el 6 de junio de 1989. En 1956 fue candidato a la Gubernatura del Estado, cargo que desempeñó hasta 1962. En el año de 1964 fue nombrado Subprocurador General de la República. Fue nombrado Ministro de la Suprema Corte de Justicia en el año de 1973.

* Doramitzi González, (1983- ) (1o. de enero de 1983) Nadadora paralímpica, mayor figura del olimpismo mexicano y probablemente la mejor deportista nacional en toda la historia. En los Juegos Paralímpicos de Sydney 2000 obtuvo dos medallas de oro, una de plata y una de bronce, mientras que en Atenas 2004 logró tres medallas áureas, una de plata y una más de bronce, consiguiendo así hasta ahora cinco medallas doradas, dos de plata y dos de bronce.

HISTORIA DE MORELIA

GUAYANGAREO

Fueron los matlalzincas quienes poblaron, durante el siglo XIV ó XV, el valle de Guayangareo, actual Morelia, con el consentimiento de un cazonci purépecha. No se sabe, a ciencia cierta, la fecha de su llegada ni quién les concedió este territorio; sin embargo, algunos historiadores coinciden en que se les otorgó como recompensa, por haber participado en la defensa del Imperio Purépecha durante la invasión de los tecos de Jalisco.

Ya instalados en este valle, cuyo nombre significa loma chata y alargada, los matlalzincas recibieron el nombre de pirindas, o sea los de enmedio, por la ubicación del lugar, al cual ellos llamaron Patzinyegui.

En el período virreinal arribaron a este lugar los franciscanos fray Juan de San Miguel y fray Antonio de Lisboa, quienes formaron una escuela que llamaron de San Miguel, donde enseñaban el catecismo, las primeras letras del castellano, música, artes y oficios; a su vez, ellos aprendieron el idioma de los naturales. Con esto, el valle entró en una etapa de notorio florecimiento.

VALLADOLID

El núcleo de los españoles avencindados en Michoacán, solicitó a la corona española les cediera terrenos para fundar una ciudad; la reina Juana, en cédula del 27 de octubre de 1537, se los concedió, y el virrey Antonio de Mendoza, para cumplir lo ordenado por la soberana, eligió el valle de Guayangareo como sitio ideal para formar esta nueva población, con el nombre de Valladolid.

Se distribuyeron solares y el alarife Juan Ponce hizo el trazo de la nueva entidad, a la que se trasladaron sesenta familias de colonizadores, nueve frailes, y algunos indígenas; el 18 de mayo de 1541, en el lugar donde hoy se ubica la plaza Valladolid, se levantó el acta de su fundación.

Carlos I de España y V de Alemania, en el año 1545 otorgó el título de ciudad a esta reciente población de La Nueva España, y en 1553, un escudo de armas.

Las autoridades civiles de la provincia de Michoacán se trasladaron de Pátzcuaro a la ciudad de Valladolid, en el año 1580; y allí, al crearse las intendencias, se estableció la cabecera de territorio, en 1787.

El surgimiento sociocultural de esta ciudad fue muy importante, no sólo dentro de la evolución de Michoacán, sino para el desarrollo histórico del país.

CIUDAD RELIGIOSA

El gran número de templos en el centro de Morelia atestigua la religiosidad de su población en la época virreinal. Es importante indicar que las distintas funciones que tenían los templos dieron como resultado características arquitectónicas diferentes.

Antes de la fundación de la ciudad, los franciscanos establecieron en el valle de Guayangareo un convento con la finalidad de evangelizar de la población indígena del lugar. El exconvento de San Francisco, que en la actualidad alberga la Casa de las Artesanías, tenía los componentes típicos de un convento del siglo XVI, tales como el atrio, el claustro, el templo, la capilla abierta y los huertos; el conjunto ocupaba importantes extensiones de terreno. En el mismo caso estaban los conventos de San Agustín y de la Orden del Carmen, los cuales abarcaban varias manzanas, creando el paisaje característico de la ciudad virreinal, con grandes enclaves de conjuntos religiosos delimitados por bardas.

Los atrios, que se han convertido en plazas, cumplían con varias funciones: ahí se llevaba a cabo la misa, se realizaban procesiones religiosas, se enterraba a los difuntos y se educaba a los niños. Los indígenas mesoamericanos tenían la costumbre de realizar sus actividades al aire libre, dentro de espacios abiertos delimitados; así el atrio funcionaba como un elemento familiar al indígena pues, durante los primeros años después de la conquista, lo identificó con su espacio sagrado. La planta baja de los conventos masculinos contaba con espacios como la sala capitular, el refectorio y la cocina, mientras en la planta alta se ubicaban las pequeñas celdas que servían de dormitorio a los frailes.

La ciudad de Valladolid también contó con conventos femeninos. Para la mujer virreinal, entrar a la vida del claustro era una opción que le proporcionaba una vida tranquila y le confería jerarquía social a su familia. En algunos casos, la entrada al convento era resultado de una acción disciplinaria, en otros respondía a motivos personales como el deseo de buscar la tranquilidad al quedar viuda o de vivir una vida contemplativa. Para tener el honor de que una hija ingresara en el convento, el padre pagaba una dote.

El convento también funcionó como escuela de niñas, donde se brindaba la educación básica, instrucción en canto y música sacra, además de los menesteres femeninos como la costura y el bordado. Las niñas vivían en el convento, en algunos casos las recibian a condición de servir a la comunidad o a alguna monja en particular. Las monjas de familias adineradas tenían sirvientas que vivían dentro del convento. Se intentaba encaminar a las doncellas hacia la vida religiosa pero al término de su educación tomaban la decisión de profesar o de volver a la vida pública.

Las monjas solían oir la misa desde atrás de una reja ubicada entre el sotocoro y la nave, donde no podían ser vistas por los que acudían a la iglesia. Algunos autores dicen que la doble portada de los templos de monjas obedece a que por una de las puertas entraban las mujeres que iban a profesar, quienes nunca más saldrían del convento. Parece lógico considerar que la doble portada tenía la función de permitir el movimiento procesional con la entrada y salida de personas al templo, la disposición de estas iglesias generalmente es paralela a la calle, no perpendicular, para poder separar el coro y el sotocoro de la nave y aislar a las monjas.
Una vez que la mujer profesaba, la vida era de encierro, regida por los horarios de rezos y los quehaceres domésticos. A las monjas de Puebla se les atribuyen suculentos platillos mexicanos, a las de Morelia habría que reconocer sus habilidades en la costura y el bordado. La función educativa del convento es notable en el partido arquitectónico que incluye un patio.

ARQUITECTURA

Las calles de Morelia están definidas sobre todo por los paramentos continuos de sus casas, aunque a veces la majestuosidad de sus templos y palacios haga olvidar estas muestras de la arquitectura habitacional. Sin embargo, la construcción doméstica formaba la mayor parte del espacio urbano de la Valladolid virreinal y es la que actualmente le da su carácter típico a la ciudad.

Como sucede en la mayoría de las urbes americanas, una de las características típicas de Valladolid era la amplitud de sus espacios, tanto exteriores (notable en calles y plazas) como interiores. La arquitectura doméstica estaba ordenada en manzanas que constaban de cuatro solares cada una (50 varas cuadradas era lo común). Por lo general, las casas se desplazaban en una sola planta, dando un aspecto de horizontalidad a la ciudad que contrastaba con el carácter
vertical de las poblaciones europeas contemporáneas.

La disposición arquitectónica de los espacios, en su mayoría, se organizó en torno a uno o más patios centrales o laterales. El sistema de circulaciones está compuesto por tres elementos: el zaguán, los corredores perimetrales y el patio, todos expuestos al aire libre por lo benigno del clima local. El zaguán comunica a la calle con el patio central, separado de éste por una reja. Como tradición, se mantiene la puerta principal abierta durante el día y los transeúntes pueden disfrutar de la vista de los coloridos patios. Los corredores sirven para colocar sillas y sentarse a "tomar el fresco" entre las macetas de azaleas.

En cuanto a las construcciones grandes y su distribución, el zaguán se abre al patio en el eje central, aunque es más común que se abra al patio pegado al muro de colindancia, con corredores que dan vuelta hacia los otros tres lados. En el caso de las casas más modestas la distribución es igual, sin embargo, por las reducidas dimensiones, la fachada consta de una puerta con una ventana, En las calles angostas del centro se puede observar el ritmo puerta-ventana a lo largo de cuadras enteras.

Se ubican la sala y las habitaciones de la familia alrededor del primer patio; entre este y el de atrás, se localizan el comedor, la biblioteca y usualmente la cocina, quedando ésta como espacio intermedio entre las habitaciones y las áreas de servicio. Comúnmente tras la cocina se encontraba el huerto, el horno de adobe, las caballerizas y las habitaciones para la servidumbre. Los espacios de la casa eran dominio de las mujeres, quienes vivían dentro de sus muros, dedicadas a la crianza de sus hijos y a los quehaceres domésticos.

El patrón de distribución descrito arrojó como resultado cierta homogeneidad en fachadas y unidad en los paramentos de las calles por el ritmo regular de vanos. El mismo patrón prevaleció durante cuatro siglos y la arquitectura habitacional del centro histórico es un abanico de estilos, en el cual detalles y adornos barrocos conviven con composiciones provenientes del Art Nouveau y del Art Déco, pero todo sobrepuesto al ritmo y las proporciones tradicionales de los vanos y de la volumetría horizontal. Una de las manzanas más íntegras en este sentido es la última cuadra de la avenida Madero, antes de llegar a la plaza de Villalongín, en la que se aprecia la horizontalidad y el proporcionamiento y ritmo de vanos.

En Valladolid, el principal material de construcción fue la cantería de tono rosado, la cual se cubría originalmente con cal apagada para protegerla. Los muros de las casas se construían de adobe o de piedra, que con frecuencia, sobrepasaban el metro. Aunque en el siglo XVI los techos inclinados de viguería con teja eran comunes, poco o poco fueron reemplazados por un sistema constructivo que se basa en la colocación de losetas de barro horneado sobre vigas de madera, encima de la loseta se rellenaba con tepetate para colocar otra capa de ladrillo. Este tipo de estructura podía servir de entrepiso o de cubierta.

El elevado costo de mantenimiento de este tipo de casa, junto con los cambios en estilo de vida y en uso de suelo, han llevado a que un gran número de casas sea convertido en negocios ó bancos, proceso que en muchos casos lleva a la destrucción de la estructura.

A continuación en una reseña se señalan algunos sitios del centro histórico que fueron escenario de la causa de la Independencia:

MORELIA

La antigua Valladolid lleva hoy el nombre de Morelia, como un tributo de México a la memoria de Don José María Morelos y Pavón, nacido en esta ciudad el 30 de septiembre de 1765.

Es ampliamente conocida una frase de Morelos en la que exaltaba la belleza de Valladolid: “Donde yo nací era el jardín de la Nueva España ”.

Fundada en 1541, Morelia es la capital del Estado de Michoacán y su Centro Histórico es hoy Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad porque conserva monumentos civiles y religiosos de los siglos XVI al XX.

Varios de esos inmuebles fueron testigos de las reuniones de conspiración contra el imperio español, así como del paso y formación ideológica de los principales líderes insurgentes: Hidalgo y Morelos.

En la época de la insurgencia la ciudad de Valladolid era un espacio urbano considerablemente más pequeño de lo que ahora es, de tal manera que en un breve recorrido por el Centro Histórico el visitante se dará una idea de que los diversos actores vallisoletanos involucrados, sin importar el bando en el que lucharon, se conocían “de toda la vida” y por las dimensiones del espacio donde todo tuvo lugar, era imposible guardar el secreto de una guerra naciente.

En informe oficial a su monarca el Virrey Venegas señaló “Que allí en Valladolid se fraguó la conspiración que estuvo planteada el año pasado”.

Luego, en 1811 el historiador español Francisco de Paula y Arraingoiz informó a su rey que “fue Valladolid donde nació la revolución que nos tiene sumidos en la guerra, y el continuo foco de ella...”

EL TEMPLO DE LAS ROSAS
Tanto el templo, como el Colegio de las Rosas, fueron edificados bajo las expensas del vigésimo primero obispo de Michoacán, don Martín Elizacoechea, entre los años de 1746 y 1756.

Dedicado a Santa Rosa de Lima, se dice que el retablo principal, además de contener el mensaje teológico, propone, de manera velada, un mensaje político. Según Francisco de la Maza , esta teoría se explica de la siguiente manera: Morelia, una ciudad eminentemente criolla, plasma en su arquitectura el orgullo dieciochesco de quienes se saben distintos a los peninsulares; los criollos del siglo XVIII plasman su nacionalismo y sus deseos independentistas en todos los actos de la vida cotidiana, así como en sus manifestaciones artísticas. De esta forma, santa Rosa de Lima, es una criolla nacida en la capital del Perú, en cuya imagen depositan su carácter americano. Santa Rosa ocupa la parte central del altar mayor y sobre ella colocaron una pintura de la Virgen de Guadalupe, una advocación novohispana de María que, para los criollos de la época, se oponía a otras vírgenes peninsulares subrayando la identidad criolla y su incipiente nacionalismo.

LA CASA NATAL DE MORELOS
La casa original donde nació el Siervo de la Nación fue demolida en 1888 y sólo se le conoce por una antigua litografía. Sin embargo, en el predio que ocupaba hay una nueva finca de finales del siglo XIX y en 1965 fue adquirida por el Gobierno del Estado para crear un recinto de homenaje y un espacio cultural que consta de museo, biblioteca y auditorio. Se exhiben en este lugar diversos objetos, entre ellos documentos con la firma holográfica de Morelos, monedas de las que el héroe mandó acuñar y varias pinturas relativas al mismo, sobresaliendo las realizadas por Alfredo Zalce.

CASA DE DOÑA JOSEFA ORTIZ DE DOMÍNGUEZ
En la esquina actual surponiente de las calles Vicente Santa María y Ortega y Montañes, nació la conspiradora doña Josefa Natividad Ortiz Ordóñez, quien a la muerte de su madre fue recluida en el convento de las Capuchinas y de ahí pasó como “huérfana recogida “ al Colegio de las Carmelitas Descalzas (hoy central del H. Cuerpo de Bomberos).

Imbuyó en sus alumnos “que la Soberanía se origina en los pueblos y no en rey...”

Premisa escuchada por Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla en sus 18 meses como colegial Jesuita, más tarde como maestro y rector seminarista Nicolaíta lo transmitió a sus alumnos como Rayón, Don José María Morelos, los hermanos Michelena, el corregidor Miguel Domínguez de Querétaro, José María Izazaga, José Verduzco, Manuel Ruiz de Chávez, Mariano Uraga y muchos más.

Por sus ideas libertarias Carlos III ordenó el cierre del Colegio.

Ex Seminario Tridentino
A donde ex compañeros de magisterio de Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, difundieron los principios filosóficos adquiridos en el Real Colegio de San Nicolás Obispo.

CASAS DE LAS CONSPIRACIONES
La más conocida es quizá la que perteneció al Capitán José García Obeso. Se localiza en la esquina que forman las dos principales avenidas del centro histórico Moreliano: Morelos y Madero.
Actualmente el inmueble aloja las oficinas sucursales de una empresa bancaria.

Otro de los domicilios en donde solían reunirse los conspiradores contra el Gobierno Virreinal se ubica en el que fuera domicilio de los hermanos Nicolás y Mariano Michelena, en el portal Hidalgo, a espaldas de la Catedral Metropolitana , a tan solo una cuadra del sitio donde vivía Agustín de Iturbide.

El capitán de infantería don José María García Obeso procedió a reunirse con los hermanos Nicolás y Mariano Michelena y haciendo eco en su convocación conspiratoria con el fraile franciscano Vicente Santa María, Fr. Manuel Ruiz de Chávez, Correa, Abarca, Soto Saldaña, Izazaga, Pedro Rosales y otros varios criollos, mestizos e indígenas, iniciaron las primeras juntas de vecinos que después se comprobara su continuada realización en cuatro fincas que para entonces estarían ubicadas conforme al “Plano Mudo” en 1794, en la esquina de la calle del Diezmo, otra en la calle de las Casas consistoriales y una más en el portal de “Ecce Homo”, propiedad respectivamente de García Obeso y hermanos Michelena, a más de la casa del comerciante español Palacios.

Los conspiradores llevaron a cabo su idea emancipadora mediante un “Plan” que se diseminó hacia otros sitios del estado, pero fueron delatados por alguno de los participantes.

La fecha del inicio estaba planteada para el 22 de diciembre de 1809.

Fueron más de 40 los conspiradores delatados, encabezando la lista el Capitán de Milicia Don. José María García Obeso y el Alférez Don Mariano Michelena.

BANDO DE PROCLAMACIÓN DE LA ABOLICIÓN DE LA ESCLAVITUD
Hidalgo proclamó la abolición de la esclavitud primero mediante un Bando, que se instaló en el inmueble que perteneciera al Vallisoletano Belauzarán, edificio que ahora ocupa la Preparatoria Cinco , a unos pasos del Colegio de San Nicolás, sobre la principal avenida de Morelia, en el Centro Histórico.

LA CORRECCIONAL
Hoy el edificio corresponde a la Secretaría de Salud. Tras la difusión del Bando de Abolición promulgado por Hidalgo, el edificio fue utilizado por los insurgentes para la detención y posterior deportación de los españoles que aun practicaran la esclavitud.

CASA DE MONEDA
Fundada por Morelos en lo que ahora son los Juzgados Civiles de la Ciudad.

LA CASA DE MORELOS
Hoy Casa Museo José María Morelos y Pavón. Siendo cura de Carácuaro, José María Morelos compró esta casa el 17 de agosto de 1801 en la cantidad de $1,830.00 pesos.

La construcción primitiva data de 1758 y constaba de una sola planta. Su nuevo dueño le agregó un segundo piso dirigiendo él mismo la obra que terminó en 1806.

Al incorporarse Morelos a la lucha insurgente, la furia realista incautó la casa y la semidestruyó. Recuperada por sus herederos, fue reconstruida pero sufrió modificaciones que alteraron su estilo primigenio.

En 1910 fue adquirida por el gobierno federal y restaurada en 1934 volviendo a su aspecto anterior. Dedicada a Museo, su contenido relata a través de pinturas, fotografías, muebles y objetos de época y facsimilares de documentos, la vida preinsurgente de don José María, la de su casa y su linaje.

También habla de su participación en la Independencia como caudillo militar, como político y constructor de la Nación Mexicana.

Destaca la exposición de una incompleta casaca militar que le perteneció y hallándose en España con otras pertenencias suyas fue devuelta a México con motivo del Centenario de la Independencia en 1910.

LA CATEDRAL DE MORELIA
Majestuoso edificio de cantera rosa de estilo barroco tablereado. Entre los tesoros que guarda está la pila bautismal de plata, de estilo neoclásico, donde se dice que fueron bautizados Don José María Morelos y más tarde Don Agustín de Iturbide, el personaje más controversial del movimiento insurgente.

EL COLEGIO DE SAN NICOLÁS DE HIDALGO
Fundado por Vasco de Quiroga en Pátzcuaro en el siglo XVI y posteriormente trasladado a Valladolid. Por sus aulas han pasado personajes de relevante prestigio como: Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, José María Morelos y Pavón, Melchor Ocampo, Alfonso Reyes, Diego Rivera y Pablo Neruda, entre otros.

De 1780 a 1792 Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla laboró primero como maestro y luego como rector.

Don Miguel Hidalgo solo renunció a la rectoría del Colegio para dirigirse a su natal pueblo de Dolores a iniciar el movimiento insurgente. Se dice que la primera noticia de la guerra independiente llegó a Morelia a través de una carta y que la sociedad vallisoletana quedó muy sorprendida primero porque el iniciador era un sacerdote y luego porque se trataba de Hidalgo, el ex rector.

TEMPLO DE SAN FRANCISCO
El fraile Vicente Santa María arengó al pueblo desde el púlpito para levantarse en armas pero fue aprehendido junto con otros conspiradores delatados el 21 de diciembre de 1809.

CUARTEL DE LAS ÁNIMAS
Ubicado en la Plaza de Villalongín, alojaba a la tropa virreinal que se envió a constatar el avance del ejército de Hidalgo hacia Valladolid.

CONVENTO DEL CARMEN
Tras capturar a los conspiradores Alférez de la Corona Dn. Mariano Michelena; Capitán de Milicias Dn. José Ma. García Obeso, fueron trasladados por la milicia virreinal a las cárceles inquisitoriales del Convento del Carmen, quedando en calidad de reos a disposición del Comandante de Armas, José Martínez de Lejarza.
